This is the site for a course on Pragmatics designed for 3rd/4th year undergraduate English major students at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. It covers both traditional topics in Pragmatics such as speech act theory, inference, presupposition, and deixis as well as linguistic descriptions that take into account context - grammatical metaphor, appraisal and participant identification.
